Talk Announcement – “The strategic importance of Open Source for Europe” by Sebastian Raible

Sebastian Raible will be joining us as a speaker at the DORS/CLUC conference, and we’re excited to hear his valuable perspective!

Sebastian is Director of EU Government Affairs at APELL – The European Open Source Software Association. A computer scientist by training, he served as a policy advisor in the European Parliament from 2015 to 2024.
His recent work includes the Artificial Intelligence Act, Product Liability, and the Data Strategy. A long-time advocate for Open Source, he represents APELL in Brussels.

In this talk, Sebastian Raible highlights why Europe and the European Union should recognise the strategic importance of Open Source in achieving key policy goals, such as boosting Europe’s competitiveness and generating economic prosperity. The lecture will raise key questions and provide insights into what strategies Europe should develop to support the Open Source ecosystem, with a particular focus on businesses.
