Razvan Deaconescu
Razvan Deaconescu holds the position of Associate Professor at the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA of Bucharest, Romania. He also serves as the Community Manager for the Unikraft Project and Unikraft GmbH, a role that aligns with his primary interests in operating systems and security, complemented by a passion for teaching and mentorship.
Within the university and the broader Romanian context, Razvan is deeply engaged in the open-source and security communities. He has played a pivotal role in nurturing the local open-source community at the university by founding the NGO ROSEdu, organizing extracurricular classes and projects focused on open source, and supporting students’ participation in programs like Google Summer of Code. Additionally, Razvan actively contributes to organizing workshops and summer schools centered around the Unikraft project and practical security topics, including CTF (Capture the Flag) contests. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Unikernel Alliance community and continues to drive initiatives aimed at fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange within these domains.
Razvan’s expertise extends beyond academia, as evidenced by his participation as a speaker at various workshops, summer schools, and events, both as an organizer and a guest. His contributions to the larger open-source community have been recognized through speaking engagements at prestigious gatherings such as the Linux Foundation Member Summit 2021, Xen Summit 2022, Open Source Summit NA 2023, and FOSDEM’23 & FOSDEM’24, where he co-led the “Microkernel and Component-based OS” track.
